The Trinity Center in Walnut Creek is a good place to organize a food drive for that can count as a semester project and to also volunteer for semester hours. Here is the link to their website: http://trinitycenterwc.org/Rohith Moolakatt is collecting donations for the Concord Adult Homeless Shelter and can use all the help he can get. On Saturday May 13th and Sunday May 21st help Rohith by passing out fliers (Saturday) and picking up donations (Sunday). Both work days will run from 10 am to around 1-2 pm. You only need to attend one day to receive project credit. Food and refreshments will be provided. RSVP in advance to [email protected]. If you have further questions about this project, email Rohith.
The Walnut Avenue Community Christian Preschool will be holding their annual "May Festival" on Saturday, May 6. There are several open slots for volunteers from 10 am to 3 pm. You must help for at least two hours for this to count as a project. (Note: If you don't use this event as your project, it can always count for normal service hours. Two hours of service cannot be used for both your 10 mandated service hours and your project.)
To sign up, go to http://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050a44aaa62f4-walnut If you sign up, please be sure to honor your commitment. Currently the tentative date for Campus Clean-Up is Saturday, May 6th. It will begin at 9 a.m. and you must stay for at least two hours.
Bring five cans of food in to your 3rd period class and have your teacher sign off on your donation. The most needed items are cereal, peanut butter, tuna, and canned meals. The New Lead Food Drive ends Wednesday April 26.
Please gear up in your favorite Disney apparel and join us next Wednesday to commemorate Trevor Tonsing by continuing his legacy of service. Trevor Tonsing was a fellow Bronco before he died of heart failure eight years ago. During his time at Northgate he was a Disney enthusiast and in the final stages of becoming an Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project he organized a blanket-making for a small group of kids suffering from heart failure, Sadly, he passed away before seeing his project through. The goal this year is to continue his legacy and help make 100 tie-knot blankets. They will be donated to the cardiology branch of Oakland Children's Hospital where Trevor spent a lot of time himself.
The event takes place at Northgate on Wednesday, February 15th from 2 to 3 o'clock and you must stay the duration of the event for it to qualify as a project (even if it goes a little past three). Please make sure that an event supervisor signs off on your participation. Project/Hours slips are available on the homepage. Remember, this event can count as your single mandated project or volunteer hours, but not both. Mentoring and being a LINK Crew Leader count as a project. Be sure to get your study session teacher to sign your project form at the end of the semester.
